1. The short version
Boozen is a travel and place-discovery app. To give you useful results, the app needs to process photos you take and (optionally) your location. We only collect what's needed to make the app work, we don't sell your data, and you stay in control of your account and your archive.
- We use your email (or Apple / Google sign-in) only to identify your account and give you access to your archive.
- Photos you analyze with Boozen are processed by AI so we can identify the place and building.
- Location is optional and only used to improve accuracy.
- No advertising SDKs. No selling of personal data.
2. Information we collect
When you create an account and use the app, we may process:
- Account identifier. Your email address, Apple ID token, or Google account identifier — used to create and sign you into your Boozen account.
- Photos you submit. When you take a photo or pick one from your gallery, it is uploaded to our secure cloud storage so it can be analyzed by our AI provider and then stored as part of your personal archive.
- AI analysis results. Titles, short descriptions, detected place and building returned by the AI, stored with the photo in your archive.
- Optional user note. If you add a short text note to a photo, it is saved with that archive entry.
- Optional location. If you grant permission, we may send an approximate location alongside your photo request so the AI can produce more reliable results. Location is not stored as a separate tracking history.
- Device information. Basic information such as device model and OS version, used for security, fraud prevention, and compatibility.
3. How we use your information
We use the data we collect to:
- Run the place-recognition feature on the photos you submit.
- Save results to your personal archive and let you view them.
- Authenticate your sessions (including via biometric unlock on your device).
- Keep the app stable and secure, prevent abuse, and honor legal obligations.
4. Photos and AI processing
To identify a place and building, your photo is sent from the app to our cloud backend (Google Cloud / Firebase) and then passed to OpenAI's API, which analyzes the image and returns a short description and detected place. The photo and its analysis result are then stored in your personal archive so you can revisit it.
Photos are stored under your account only. They are not used to train public models and are not shared with other users. You can remove entries from your archive at any time inside the app.
5. Biometrics
Face ID / Touch ID is handled entirely by your device's operating system. Biometric data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us. Boozen only receives a yes/no result from the OS when you unlock the app.
6. Location
Location access is optional. If enabled, a coarse position is sent alongside a photo analysis request to improve accuracy. You can deny, grant, or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings without losing core functionality.
7. Third-party services
Boozen relies on a small number of trusted providers:
- Google Cloud Platform / Firebase — authentication, cloud storage, and backend hosting.
- OpenAI — AI-based analysis of photos you submit.
- Apple Sign In / Google Sign-In — optional authentication providers you choose.
These providers process data only on our behalf and under their own privacy and security commitments.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your account and archive remain as long as your account is active. You can delete individual archive entries from the app. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, email us at the address below — we respond to deletion requests within a reasonable timeframe.
9. Children's privacy
Boozen is not directed to children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Security
Data is transmitted over TLS. Archive access requires your signed-in account (and optional biometric unlock). No system is perfectly secure, but we follow standard industry practices to protect your data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in the app or in legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
